Unisex perfume: choose the scent, not the label

By Heid & Seak · 4 min read

A scent doesn’t need to know your gender to feel like yours. Unisex perfume opens the search to whoever likes the smell. At Heid & Seak, we hide the gender label and leave the discovery to your nose.

What does unisex perfume mean?

Unisex describes how a fragrance is offered: without a gender-specific audience. It isn’t one particular smell. A perfume can feel bright, sweet, woody, soft, or richly warm and still be made for whoever finds it.

Rather than asking which aisle a bottle belongs in, ask what you want to smell. Do you reach for something comforting? A little brightness? The warmth of a jacket borrowed at the end of the evening? Those preferences are a more useful starting point than a label.

Follow a scent profile you already enjoy

Start with a few familiar words, not a long list of ingredients. Our three perfumes offer different places to begin, and every Heid & Seak product is handmade in the USA.

Borrowed Jacket brings together sweet tobacco, cherry, and vanilla. If cherry vanilla perfume or a sweet tobacco perfume is what you’re seeking, this is our warm, mischievous starting point.

Just Left the Room pairs bergamot with warm woods and amber: a bright hello with a warm impression left behind. Velvet Morning takes a softer route with almond, coconut milk, and heodine—our slow-morning scent, wrapped in soft sheets.

Use a perfume sample set before choosing a bottle

A description gives you a direction; wearing a scent lets you decide. The Seeking Set contains all three Heid & Seak fragrances in 2 ml vials, so you can compare them without choosing a full bottle first.

Try them on separate days instead of putting all three on at once. That makes it easier to notice which individual scent you enjoy. There’s no need to rank them immediately: your favourite might be the one you keep wanting to wear again.

  1. Choose one sample and wear it on its own.
  2. Notice your first impression, then revisit it later in the day.
  3. Write down what you enjoy in your own words—bright, warm, soft, or something else entirely.
  4. Repeat with the other samples before choosing your favourite.

Your nose gets the final say

A unisex perfume guide can help you narrow the search, but it can’t choose your favourite for you. Neither can a gender label. The right starting point is a smell you’re curious about; the right finish is a scent you actually want to wear.

If you’re torn between profiles, our scent personality quiz offers another playful way to explore. Think of it as a nudge toward a discovery, not a rule about who you are.

Three scents. Zero labels.

Let your nose do the finding.

All three fragrances in The Seeking Set. Handmade in the USA.
